Community Engagement

We help you as you encourage people to take the plunge.

We design, manage and facilitate innovative, effective large group convenings.   We also design and implement longer-term strategies that engage, build and develop communities of people to support your goals.

Robert Putnam wrote a book a decade ago called “Bowling Alone” that describes an American society of the mid-90s where our neighborhoods were disintegrating, and we were all on the verge of terminal couch-potato-dom.

At The Canoe Group, we refuse to go gently into the dark night of isolation from one another.  We believe that the best community engagement both brings people face to face with one another, and provides an ongoing network that connects them with each other and with you.

Throughout our careers, we’ve worked to bring people out of their homes and into engagement with one another: to support ideas, initiatives, candidates, organizations and causes.  We’ve designed conventions for hundreds of people, and rallies for thousands, walks and runs and fund-raising events, large-scale volunteer projects, grassroots programs, community gatherings, summits, conferences and online networks.

Engaging community, motivating participation, encouraging grassroots action, we’ve done it all.  In rural communities and urban centers, in corporations and non-profits, we’ve called people away from their desks, away from their television sets, away from their computers and into action.

Every organization has a need to truly engage with its community.  Every organization’s growth depends on attracting supporters and customers, and encouraging their loyalty.  Community engagement is a practice that asks others to act on your behalf.

Once that bridge is crossed, all else is possible.
