With planning work beginning in January 2009, The Canoe Group guided collaborative design and event development for the 2009 Oregon Arts Summit. Rebranding the Summit, The Canoe Group’s work with Oregon Arts Commission staff and Commissioner Bart Eberwein resulted in a standing room only Oregon Arts Summit, to be convened at the Tiger Woods Center in Beaverton, Oregon on May 13.

One goal of the Summit, with its theme The Art of Collaboration, was to fuel cross-sector engagement. With over 30% of attendees joining the Summit from outside metro Portland, nearly 50% of Summit participants came from outside the nonprofit arts community, representing local government, designers, architects, retail, tourism, state agencies, education, higher education and a range of others.

With Oregon’s increased emphasis on growing its creative economy, the Summit was designed to connect business, education, political and arts leaders and to develop collaborative capacities to address common concerns.

Communications strategies wove together a media sponsorship from the Portland Business Journal, web strategies, partnerships with a broad range of business and professional organizations, online surveys, and co-leadership tactics, designed and was developed and executed by The Canoe Group over a three month timeline.
